Signs you need a powerflush

  • A powerflush clears sludge and debris from your heating system — common in older systems. If you spot these warning signs, it’s time to act.

Common signs of a blocked system

Cold spots at the bottom of radiators, boiler making banging noises, slow warm-up times, discoloured water when bleeding radiators, or repeatedly needing to bleed the same radiators are all red flags.

    Why sludge builds up

Over time, magnetite (iron oxide) accumulates inside pipes and radiators. This sludge reduces water flow, making your heating work harder and your bills go up. It also puts stress on your boiler, leading to breakdowns.

    What a powerflush does

A powerflush uses high-velocity water flow to dislodge and remove sludge. Afterwards, we add inhibitor to prevent it building up again. Your heating runs quieter, warmer, and more efficiently.

    Cost and time

A powerflush typically costs £400–£800 and takes a day. If your boiler’s over 15 years old or you’ve got these symptoms, it’s worth considering before a new installation.
